Summer Leadership Academy 2023
Curriculum Description
Memphis Office of Youth Service’s (MOYS) mission is “to equip students with the tools necessary for becoming contributors to the greater community by inspiring them to make positive life decisions in the classroom and beyond thought engaging and interactive programs.” By “focusing on initiatives that add value through education, health, employability, and justice,” participants are learning responsibility and other valuable life skills to help them become competent adults, allowing them to develop their full potential.
Participants of the Summer Leadership Academy will be taught a diverse, two-part curriculum that covers academics in the subject areas of Math, Language Arts and Science (aligned with Tennessee’s College and Career Readiness Standards), as well as Life Skills. The purpose of this two-part curriculum is to not only supplement our participants academically, but also to ensure they are learning the proper skills needed to be successful, productive citizens and to prepare them to move on to the 9th-12th MPLOY Program.
DRESS CODE POLICY
Purpose and Scope
MAP/ Summer Leadership Academy (SLA) participants are expected to maintain high personal and professional standards. Two of the most noticeable expressions of these standards are dress and appearance. SLA participants are representatives of Memphis and therefore dress and appearance must: (1) present an appropriate or identifiable presence for supervisors, parents, instructors and the public (2) promote a positive learning environment (3) limit distractions caused by inappropriate dress and work environment and (4) ensure safety while learning.
APPROPRIATE DRESS FOR MAP/SLA PARTICIPANTS
All visible clothing should be appropriately fitted. Examples of appropriate attire are as follows:
Collared (Polo-style) shirts
Button-down shirts/business casual blouses
Dresses/skirts may be worn no more than one inch above the knee
Khaki bottoms
Slacks
MAP attire
School uniforms
Week 1 Day 1- June 12
8:45 AM Ambassador Arrival and Check-In

Purpose: Ambassadors will sign in at the sign in table to be counted for the day.

Purpose: Ambassadors will enjoy other activities led by them and the interns to start the day. Youth Specialists start their day with the Ambassadors while they are doing teambuilders and icebreakers with then interns.
