Triadic ballet, 1922 (Choreography Oskar Schlemmer / Music Paul Hindemith) Triadisches Ballett (Triadic Ballet) is a widely performed avant-garde artistic dance. Inspired by Schlemmer’s observations during the First World War and by Arnold Schoenberg’s atonal melodrama Pierrot lunaire, it has 3 acts, 3 participants, 12 dances, and 18 costumes. Each act is assigned a different colour. The first three scenes, against a 6 yellow background, express a cheerful, burlesque mood. The two middle scenes, on a pink stage, are festive and solemn.
